Create Your Own Gingerbread Design

Nowadays, gingerbread is often made in the shape of beautiful houses or gingerbread men. However, these moulds from Ryedale Folk Museum give us a glimpse of this luxurious treat during Georgian times.

They are from Sonley’s bakery in Kirkbymoorside on the edge of the North York Moors and date from the reign of King George IV (1820 – 1830). The moulds at Ryedale Folk Museum, as well as some concrete casts made from festive moulds in their collection, have formed the inspiration for this Create Your Own activity..
